U-Build, 2023
We designed and built a modular exhibition system for RIBA that embodied circular design principles, later reconfigured and reused across multiple shows in London and Liverpool.

Exhibition Design
While working with U-Build, I helped design and build the exhibition Long Life, Low Energy: Designing for a Circular Economy for the Royal Institute of British Architects in London. The modular exhibition system was built entirely from reusable U-Build components; a design approach that embodied the show’s message about reducing waste and rethinking how we build.
The exhibition explored themes of demolition, retrofit, and circular design. I worked closely with RIBA’s curatorial team to develop a layout that was flexible, low-impact, and playful. The modular system was designed to be easily adapted and reassembled for future shows.
After the London exhibition closed, the same system was dismantled, reconfigured, and reused at RIBA Liverpool where a small team of U-Builders fitted the system. I was part of this build team and enjoyed the efficient process or reconfiguring and building the system on-site. Later the system was also used in RIBA London’s exhibition, The Architect Has Left the Building by Jim Stephenson. It was a joy to see U-Build fulfil it’s reusable potential, particularly because exhibitions design is typically an extremely temporary and wasteful industry.
